Launching Project CONCORDIA: Strengthening Cross-Border Resilience Against Natural Hazards

The SPRINT-UNIUD Lab of the University of Udine is proud to announce its participation in CONCORDIA (COoperative Network for COoRdinated Disaster Impact Assessment), a project funded by the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia programme.

The Challenge

The cross-border region between Italy and Slovenia is a geologically complex area, highly vulnerable to seismic and landslide risks. These phenomena do not respect national borders and require a unified approach to protect communities, critical infrastructure, and ecosystems.

Our Goal

CONCORDIA aims to bridge the gap between national disaster management strategies by focusing on:

  • Data Harmonisation: Developing standardised methodologies for monitoring earthquakes and landslides across borders.
  • Real-time Integrated Systems: Creating interoperable alert tools and impact scenarios to support decision-making during the "golden hours" of an emergency.
  • Enhanced Cooperation: Strengthening the joint response capacity through a unified network of research institutions and Civil Protection agencies.

The Role of SPRINT-UNIUD

Building on the legacy of the previous ARMONIA project, the SPRINT team (Polytechnic Department of Engineering and Architecture) will contribute its multidisciplinary expertise to develop risk assessment protocols and boost territorial resilience, working hand-in-hand with our Slovenian and Italian partners.

The Partnership

Led by the University of Trieste, the consortium brings together:

  • ARSO (Slovenian Environment Agency)
  • OGS (National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics)
  • University of Udine (SPRINT-Lab)
  • GeoZS (Geological Survey of Slovenia)

Supported by key associated partners such as the Civil Protection of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and the Slovenian Ministry of Defence.
